Final URL is broken
Paying for clicks that land on an error is the most expensive failure in an account and the easiest to miss, since nothing in the ad platform changes. We fetch every final URL daily. A page has to fail twice in a row before automation may pause anything.
- Fires when
- A live ad's final URL answers 404, 410 or 5xx, runs through more than 2 redirects, or is not HTTPS. Other 4xx answers usually mean a site refused our fetcher, so they do not count.
- What to do
- Pause the ad and alert, for a broken page. Fix the link, for a redirect chain or plain HTTP.
- How the impact is estimated
- waste = the ad's spend over 30 days, for a page that does not load; risk, for one that only loads slowly or insecurely
- Platform
- Google Ads
- Severity
- high
- Looks back
- 30 days
- Default thresholds (a workspace can change them)
- auto_after_runs: 2
- max_redirects: 2
- Autopilot
- Only for a broken page, on two runs in a row.
